Diabetes University 2010 Program Overview:
In 2010, this program traveled to
Charleston
to serve the citizens of the Low Country. Due to the unprecedented need for diabetes education in our state, we partnered with the City of Charleston, the Charleston County Community Education Program and our keynote speaker Dr. Ann Kulze to promote it with them. Palmetto Primary Care Physicians joined us to provide screenings for the nearly 300 people who attended. It was a wonderful success. We hope to hold future Diabetes University programs in late 2011. For futher information on the keynote speaker, please visit her website at:

This program was held at Burke High School Auditorium located in downtown
Charleston
next to the Citadel. It began at 8:00 a.m. and concluded at 2:15 p.m. It supported community education for approximately 300
South Carolina
citizens in the
Charleston
area. Community members living with diabetes was the focus for the education program. The program provided materials educating community members about Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes and four live educational sessions on health prevention offered by local community healthcare leaders and educators. We want to thank our associate members who made this program possible: Lilly, Novo-Nordisk, Bayer Diabetes Care, GlaxoSmithKline, AstraZeneca and Takeda Pharmaceuticals.
