Obesity
Obesity is an epidemic in South Carolina and is a risk factor for many diseases, especially diabetes and cardiovascular disease. In 2004, SCAHP made plans to target childhood obesity. Our goals are to manage the progression of the disease in our already obese children and prevent obesity in others. SCAHP plans to support the expansion of successful obesity programs already being offered with the hope of stimulating the growth of such programs, and also to create standards for obesity management across the state.
To address obesity and its devastating effects, SCAHP in partnership with the USC School of Medicine, Department of Pediatrics is offering a program to identify, prevent and manage obesity and its co-morbid disorders. The program is designed to educate health care providers on how to implement an obesity management program in the primary care setting.
For health education programs on obesity, view our events page for our upcoming Diabetes University in Charleston, SC where we will be discussing obesity.
